Avelo will base a third 737-800 at McKinney National and add Denver, Atlanta, New Orleans and Nashville in December, lifting its North Texas network to nine destinations.
Read-back
- Avelo adds Denver, Atlanta, New Orleans and Nashville routes from McKinney National Airport starting 16-17 December
- A third based 184-seat Boeing 737-800 will support roughly 150 jobs and expand the DTX network to nine destinations
- Avelo's initial McKinney operation launches 11 November with Las Vegas and four Florida routes

Avelo Airlines will base a third 184-seat Boeing 737-800 at McKinney National Airport (DTX) and add four nonstop routes in December, expanding its planned network from the North Texas airport to nine destinations before the base has even opened.
Denver (DEN) and Atlanta (ATL) services start on 16 December, followed by New Orleans (MSY) and Nashville (BNA) on 17 December. Denver becomes the newest point in Avelo's route map.
The announcement builds on an operation that has not yet launched. Avelo's initial DTX schedule begins on 11 November with nonstop flights to Las Vegas (LAS) and four Florida destinations: Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Fort Myers (RSW), Orlando (MCO) and Tampa (TPA).
The additional aircraft deepens Avelo's investment in the airport and supports approximately 150 jobs, the airline said.
Avelo founder and CEO Andrew Levy tied the expansion to early booking performance. "The response from North Texas has been extraordinary, and the bookings back that up. Adding four new destinations and a third based aircraft further cements our commitment to Collin County," Levy said. He added that the airline's low fares, airport convenience and operational performance have driven strong customer demand.
The claim of strong bookings is, for now, the airline's own. Avelo has not disclosed load factors, fare data or route-level performance for the DTX base, which has no operating history. The gauge of demand will become visible once the November launch produces schedule and capacity records.
Strategically, the move extends Avelo's model of stationing aircraft at secondary airports near large metropolitan areas rather than at congested hubs. McKinney sits in Collin County, northeast of Dallas, and positions Avelo to capture origin traffic in one of the fastest-growing US suburban corridors while avoiding the slot and facility constraints of Dallas/Fort Worth and Dallas Love Field.
Three based 737-800s represent a measured bet rather than a major fleet commitment. Each aircraft seats 184 passengers, giving DTX roughly 550 seats of based capacity per departure wave. For Avelo, a carrier built on rapid base openings and equally rapid retrenchment in underperforming markets, the Collin County commitment signals that early demand indicators have cleared the airline's internal threshold for reinvestment.
The 150-job figure carries local economic weight. Airport officials in McKinney have sought scheduled airline service for years as the facility has grown primarily around general aviation and corporate traffic. Scheduled 737 operations with a nine-destination network give the airport a commercial passenger profile it has not previously held.
For passengers, the expansion widens the map from leisure-focused Florida and Las Vegas routes to short-haul business and leisure points — Denver, Atlanta, Nashville and New Orleans — that connect Collin County to major domestic markets without a connection through a hub.
The test ahead is whether the December wave performs to the standard that justified the November commitment. Avelo's network strategy depends on matching capacity quickly to demonstrated demand; the pace of any fourth-aircraft decision at DTX will show whether the Collin County base has become a durable pillar of the carrier's system or another experiment in a long list of tested markets.
