Avolon firms 110-aircraft Airbus order spanning A330neo and A320neo
Airbus firmed a 110-jet Avolon order on October 9, 2026: 35 A330-900s and 75 A320neo Family aircraft, lifting the lessor's A330-900 total to 114.
Read-back
- Airbus confirmed the firm order on October 9, 2026.
- The order covers 35 A330-900s and 75 A320neo Family jets — 110 aircraft in total.
- Avolon's cumulative A330-900 purchases from Airbus now total 114 aircraft.
- Avolon's A320-family order book with Airbus has risen to 650 aircraft.
Airbus confirmed on October 9, 2026 a firm order from Dublin-based lessor Avolon for 110 aircraft: 35 A330-900 widebodies and 75 A320neo Family jets.
The deal pushes Avolon's cumulative orders for the A330-900 to 114 aircraft, a figure Airbus says makes it the leading lessor customer for the type. Avolon's total A320-family order book with the manufacturer now stands at 650 aircraft.
"This is a major order for both the A330neo, and the A320neo Family, and we thank Avolon for its repeated endorsement of our products," Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business, said.
What does the order mean for Avolon's fleet strategy?
For Avolon, the purchase is a positioning move around delivery slots rather than an immediate capacity injection. Lessors placing triple-digit orders are effectively securing production positions years ahead, at a time when Airbus delivery output remains the binding constraint on fleet growth across the industry.
"We continue to see strong demand for new aircraft, and this order further strengthens our long-term delivery pipeline," Avolon CEO Andy Cronin said. "This positions us to support our airline customers' fleet growth and replacement requirements well into the next decade."
Cronin tied the order to expectations of sustained demand for both types, adding: "We expect demand for both the A330neo and A320neo to remain strong given the long-term growth trajectory of the aviation sector, and we are delighted to further expand our longstanding partnership with Airbus through this agreement."
The 35-unit A330-900 component is notable. Widebody orders from lessors tend to lag narrowbody commitments because twin-aisle placement depends on a smaller pool of long-haul operators. A 114-aircraft cumulative position in a program that competes head-on with the Boeing 787 gives Avolon substantial placement leverage in the medium widebody market.
How does the order fit the wider supply picture?
The transaction lands as Airbus works to accelerate output toward its 2026 delivery targets, which require more than 100 aircraft handed over per month in the closing stretch of the year. Demand is not the limiting factor; production and supply chain throughput are. Orders of this size lengthen the queue rather than shorten it, and they embed Avolon's airline customers in that queue well into the 2030s.
The A320neo Family component — 75 aircraft — reinforces the world's largest narrowbody backlog, while the A330-900 order sustains a widebody program whose production rate ambitions depend on a steady stream of lessor and airline commitments.
For airlines seeking replacement capacity for ageing medium widebodies and growth narrowbody slots, Avolon's expanded order book adds a leasing alternative to direct OEM placement. That option carries weight when direct delivery positions stretch beyond the end of the decade.
Airbus has not disclosed delivery schedules or engine selections for the aircraft. How quickly the 110 jets translate into placed, revenue-generating capacity will depend on production rates and Avolon's ability to match airframes to operator demand as slots come due.
What comes next?
With the order signed, attention shifts to allocation: which Avolon airline customers take the first A330-900 positions, and at what pace Airbus can convert this and other firm orders into actual deliveries against its monthly output targets.
