Delta and SkyWest Add Four New Routes From Salt Lake City
Delta and SkyWest will launch twice-daily Salt Lake City–Flagstaff service on June 7, 2027, alongside new Sonoma County, Monterey and Moab routes from the Utah hub.
Read-back
- Delta/SkyWest launch twice-daily year-round Salt Lake City–Flagstaff service on June 7, 2027
- Delta begins Salt Lake City–Monterey service on Dec. 19, its first Monterey route in nearly two decades
- SkyWest started daily seasonal Salt Lake City–Moab service, pausing after Thanksgiving and returning March 2027
- SkyWest adds year-round Moab–Denver United Express service this week at one or two daily roundtrips
- Salt Lake City–Santa Rosa/Sonoma County service officially launches this week

Delta Air Lines will launch twice-daily, year-round nonstop service between Salt Lake City International Airport and Flagstaff Pulliam Airport on June 7, 2027, operated by regional partner SkyWest Airlines. The route anchors a cluster of four new Salt Lake City services that Delta and SkyWest have announced or activated in recent weeks, all aimed at leisure and outdoor-travel destinations across the Mountain West and California.
Flagstaff sits roughly 75 miles south of the Grand Canyon's South Rim and about 30 miles north of Sedona, positioning the new route as a gateway to northern Arizona's tourism economy. The city was also the first designated International Dark Sky City, a distinction it earned more than two decades ago.
What else is Delta adding from Salt Lake City?
The Flagstaff announcement is the farthest-out item on Delta's Salt Lake City expansion slate. Three other California- and Utah-focused routes are already in service or launch within months:
- Santa Rosa/Sonoma County, California — nonstop service from Utah officially launches this week.
- Monterey Peninsula, California — new service begins Dec. 19, restoring a destination Delta last served out of Monterey Regional Airport nearly two decades ago, as The Points Guy reported.
- Moab, Utah — daily roundtrip service between Salt Lake City and Canyonlands Regional Airport, operated by SkyWest on behalf of Delta, began last week.
The Monterey route gives Utah travelers winter access to Pebble Beach Resorts and the Big Sur coast. The Moab link, meanwhile, reconnects one of Utah's highest-profile outdoor destinations to Delta's Salt Lake City hub.
The Moab service is seasonal in its current form. It runs through Thanksgiving, pauses for the winter, and returns in March 2027 — a scheduling pattern that mirrors the route's peak-demand windows in spring and fall, when Arches and Canyonlands national parks draw their heaviest visitation.
How does Moab gain a second network hub?
SkyWest is not limiting Moab to a single hub connection. The St. George, Utah-based carrier will also begin flying between Moab and Denver this week under the United Express banner, with year-round service at one or two daily roundtrips.
That gives Canyonlands Regional Airport simultaneous links to two major connecting banks — Delta's Salt Lake City operation and United's Denver hub — a meaningful step up in network access for a small leisure market.
Cody Thomas, SkyWest's managing director of market development, said the airline is "thrilled" to offer both options to the Moab community.
"Having direct access to Denver and Salt Lake City, along with the ability to connect on United's and Delta's global networks, makes it easy and convenient for local travelers to get anywhere they want to go and allows new opportunities for those who want to experience this incredible region," Thomas said in a statement.
What does the Flagstaff route change?
For travelers along Utah's Wasatch Front, the Flagstaff service removes the need to connect or drive to reach the Grand Canyon's South Rim and the Sedona area. Twice-daily, year-round frequency suggests Delta and SkyWest see demand beyond the peak summer season, though the route's first real test will come with its June 2027 launch — more than 20 months from the announcement.
The service also extends a pattern in Delta's Salt Lake City strategy: pairing its Rocky Mountain hub with secondary Western leisure markets — Sonoma County, Monterey, Moab, now Flagstaff — rather than adding capacity on trunk routes. Regional jets, including SkyWest's Embraer E175s, the workhorse of the Delta Connection fleet at Salt Lake City, make these thin markets viable.
Between now and the Flagstaff launch, Delta's near-term milestones are concrete: Sonoma County service begins this week, Monterey follows on Dec. 19, and the seasonal Moab route resumes in March 2027. How the Monterey and Sonoma routes perform over the winter will offer the clearest early signal of whether this leisure-market push from Salt Lake City can sustain year-round economics.
