Ethiopian Cargo Opens Real-Time Digital Booking to 30,000 Forwarders
Ethiopian Cargo puts General Cargo and Express services on CargoAi's CargoMART marketplace, giving 30,000+ forwarders real-time rates and capacity booking across four regions.
Read-back
- More than 30,000 freight forwarders across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia gain real-time access to Ethiopian Cargo capacity.
- Booking runs through CargoAi's CargoMART marketplace and CargoCONNECT TMS integration.
- The deal includes CargoAi digital interline capabilities for bookings between airline partners.
- Dereje Derero, managing director of Ethiopian Cargo & Logistics Services, called digitalization a key pillar of the carrier's long-term strategy.

Ethiopian Cargo & Logistics Services has opened real-time rate and capacity booking to more than 30,000 freight forwarders through a partnership with digital booking platform CargoAi, the carrier announced.
The integration places Ethiopian Cargo's General Cargo and Express products on CargoAi's CargoMART marketplace, making them bookable by forwarders across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Forwarders gain live rates and online capacity booking rather than relying on offline channels for quotations and space confirmation.
What does the deal cover?
The agreement spans three technical layers:
- CargoMART marketplace access: more than 30,000 forwarders in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia can view and book Ethiopian Cargo's General Cargo and Express services with real-time rates.
- CargoCONNECT integration: forwarders can reach Ethiopian Cargo capacity through their own transportation management systems, extending booking access across multiple systems and the markets the carrier serves.
- Digital interline: Ethiopian Cargo gains access to CargoAi's interline capabilities, designed to streamline bookings and capacity management between airline partners.
The interline element is the strategic component. Interline capacity management has historically depended on bilateral agreements and manual processes; a digital layer could shorten the path to selling partner capacity across combined networks. For a carrier whose hub position at Addis Ababa depends on connecting traffic between Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas, automating that handoff carries direct network consequences.
Why is Ethiopian Cargo pushing digitalization?
The partnership forms part of a broader Ethiopian Cargo effort to automate and digitize cargo processes and give freight forwarders more direct access to its capacity and services. The airline has built one of the largest cargo operations of any African carrier, anchored by a widebody freighter fleet and pharmaceutical and e-commerce product lines that depend on fast, reliable distribution of capacity information.
"Digitalization is a key pillar of Ethiopian Cargo's long-term strategy," said Dereje Derero, managing director of Ethiopian Cargo & Logistics Services. "Partnering with CargoAi allows us to bring our services closer to freight forwarders worldwide by offering a modern, seamless booking experience."
The statement positions the deal as distribution infrastructure rather than a marketing exercise. For a carrier competing against Gulf and European cargo hubs for Africa-bound freight, the speed at which a forwarder in Frankfurt, Dubai or Shanghai can find and secure space now functions as a competitive variable alongside price and frequency.
What does CargoAi gain?
CargoAi CEO Matthieu Petot framed the partnership in terms of network exposure. Real-time access to capacity and pricing, he said, will give forwarders greater access to Ethiopian Cargo's network while expanding the carrier's digital reach.
Adding a major African carrier to CargoMART strengthens the platform's coverage on a continent where air freight demand growth has outpaced digital distribution capability. Forwarders booking African capacity have often worked through agent chains and manual rate requests; marketplace integration compresses that process.
The competitive context
Digital booking adoption has accelerated across the air cargo industry since the pandemic-era capacity crunch, when forwarders sought faster visibility into available space. Carriers and platforms have responded by connecting inventories to marketplaces, TMS integrations and API channels. Ethiopian Cargo's move aligns it with carriers that treat digital distribution as core infrastructure.
The deal also widens the funnel for Ethiopian Cargo's capacity without adding sales overhead: 30,000 forwarders across four regions now hold self-service access to the carrier's rates and space. How much of that capacity Ethiopian Cargo allocates through the channel, and at what price transparency level, will determine whether the integration shifts bookings or simply adds another listing.
Both companies indicate the partnership will deepen as digital interline capabilities come into use, pointing toward a future in which Ethiopian Cargo sells and manages partner capacity through the same digital rails.
