JetBlue Posts Q2 Revenue of $2.69 Billion and Unveils BlueFirst
JetBlue beat Q2 estimates with $2.69 billion revenue despite a $247 million loss, while it and Allegiant both unveiled domestic first class products for 2027 rollout.
Read-back
- JetBlue posted Q2 operating revenue of $2.69 billion, up 14.5%, with unit revenue up 11% but a $247 million net loss
- JetBlue's BlueFirst, using the Collins Aerospace MiQ seat, rolls out this fall with fleetwide completion targeted for late 2027
- Allegiant First goes on sale in mid-August for spring 2027 debut on 23 new deliveries, configured with eight 2-2 seats
JetBlue generated $2.69 billion in operating revenue for the second quarter, a 14.5% year-over-year increase that beat Wall Street's $2.68 billion consensus, as unit revenue rose 11% on airfare increases of 9%.
The stock climbed Tuesday on the results. The revenue gain still could not outrun unit costs: CASM increased 17%, and even excluding fuel costs were up 2.4%. JetBlue posted a net loss of $247 million, or $0.66 per share — narrower than the $0.71 loss analysts predicted. The airline recaptured nearly half of its higher Q2 fuel costs, well above analyst expectations of 30-40%. It ended the quarter with $1.6 billion in cash and forecasts operating margin improvement of roughly 3.5% for the second half of 2026.
BlueFirst: JetBlue enters the domestic first class market
JetBlue will roll out a domestic first class cabin, branded BlueFirst, starting this fall, with fleetwide installation targeted for late 2027. The cabin will eventually equip every non-Mint aircraft in the fleet. JetBlue has operated its Mint business class product on long-haul and select domestic routes for years; BlueFirst extends the premium strategy across the remainder of the operation.
The carrier selected the Collins Aerospace MiQ seat for the new cabin. The product will include upgraded dining and priority check-in, boarding and baggage handling.
BlueFirst arrives alongside a complete fare restructuring. JetBlue's framework now spans four cabin experiences — Main, EvenMore, BlueFirst and Mint — each offered in three fare types: Basic, Standard and Flex. That structure mirrors the segmentation model already standard across major US carriers.
Allegiant follows with its own first class
JetBlue is not alone. Allegiant Air will introduce domestic first class seating in spring 2027, a significant departure from its ultra-low-cost model. The product, Allegiant First, goes on sale in mid-August and will consist of two rows in a 2-2 configuration — eight seats total — on select aircraft.
Those aircraft will be new deliveries starting in 2027, with 23 aircraft in the current plan, based at Punta Gorda. Allegiant's existing route map offers little indication of which markets the carrier considers premium-ready.
Allegiant is also removing charges for most non-alcoholic drinks — soft drinks, juice and water — across the entire aircraft beginning Saturday. Alcohol will remain a paid item.
Delta and DraftKings launch SkyPicks
Delta and DraftKings introduced SkyPicks, a free prediction game available to SkyMiles members aged 21 and over who connect to in-flight WiFi on personal devices. The service is live now with MLB games and will add NFL content in the fall. Delta frames the product as an entertainment experience rather than gambling, which remains illegal in flight regardless of the departure or arrival point, including between or within states that permit online wagering.
Frontier posts record revenue on Spirit's exit
Frontier Airlines reported record second-quarter revenue of $1.28 billion, up 38% year over year, citing strong travel demand and what it called "favorable competitive capacity" — a reference to Spirit's collapse. RASM jumped 28% to $0.10.
Frontier still recorded a $90 million net loss for the quarter, a 29% deterioration from Q2 2025, driven by fuel costs of $4.17 per gallon, 77% higher than last year. The total fuel bill nearly doubled to $436 million. The carrier's guidance points to Q3 RASM growth above 20%, which would mark a third consecutive quarter of double-digit gains. Frontier closed the period with $1.16 billion in liquidity.
