Qatar Airways Adds Eight Routes, Posts 11% Winter Capacity Increase

Qatar Airways schedules 78,872 flights and 22.5 million seats for the 2026/27 winter season, an 11% capacity rise built on eight new routes led by a long-delayed Doha–Bogotá–Caracas triangle on a Boeing 777-200LR.

Read-back

  1. Qatar Airways schedules 78,872 flights and 22.5 million seats for the 2026/27 winter season, an 11% capacity increase across 170+ destinations.
  2. The Doha–Bogotá–Caracas triangular Boeing 777-200LR service launches November 2026 after two delays from a planned July 22 start.
  3. The July Helsinki relaunch makes Qatar Airways the sole operator on Doha–Helsinki after Finnair's withdrawal; Emirates added the city from Dubai.
  4. Melbourne and Sydney each rise from seven to 14 weekly flights from December 9 as part of an Australian capacity doubling.
  5. Montreal weekly frequencies rise from five to seven from October 25, a 40% seat-capacity increase.

Qatar Airways has scheduled 78,872 flights and 22.5 million seats across more than 170 destinations for the 2026/27 winter season — an 11% capacity increase that doubles down on a network the carrier says has more than doubled its departures versus 2021 and that carries the marks of a rebuild from this year's Middle East conflict.

The Doha-based flag carrier, the second-largest in the Middle East by scheduled departures behind Saudia and the second by seats behind Emirates, will average roughly eight daily round-trip departures during the season that runs from October 25 through March 27.

That build-out spans eight new and restored services, anchored by a long-delayed Boeing 777-200LR triangular route to South America.

What does the Bogotá-Caracas launch finally resolve?

The most consequential of the eight additions is the South American triangular route. Qatar Airways will start Doha–Bogotá–Caracas flights in November 2026, deploying a 777-200LR twice weekly on Wednesdays and Sundays.

The carrier first targeted a July 22 start. Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East created uncertainty, then a June earthquake in Venezuela forced another delay. A Qatar Airways spokesperson told Simple Flying: "The launch of services to Bogota and Caracas has been postponed following the recent earthquake in Venezuela."

Bogotá's El Dorado International Airport (BOG) and Caracas's Simón Bolívar International Airport (CCS) become the carrier's latest South American gateways. Caracas joins the route map for the first time.

Which routes fill gaps left by oneworld partners?

Three restorations show Qatar Airways absorbing capacity abandoned by code-share partners inside the oneworld alliance.

  • Helsinki (HEL) returned in July. Qatar Airways now operates the only Doha–Helsinki link, using a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner daily. Finnair, which had run the route alongside Stockholm and Copenhagen services, exited Doha entirely this year citing commercial reasons. Emirates has added Helsinki from Dubai in 2026.
  • Philadelphia (PHL) relaunched in August with an Airbus A350-900, taking over the daily slot American Airlines suspended in March amid the Middle East conflict and dropped in June.
  • Tokyo Haneda (HND) resumed in July, with one daily frequency using an A350-900 or Boeing 777-200LR.

Where is the rest of the new capacity flowing?

Five additional routes complete the 2026 expansion. The narrowbody A320ceo assignments suit short- and mid-haul demand that the carrier can price for high load factor.

  • Port Sudan (PZU) launched in July, three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with an A320ceo.
  • Hail (HAS) began in January, three weekly A320ceo flights on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
  • Alexandria (ALY) starts in September at two weekly A320ceo frequencies (Tuesdays and Saturdays), escalating to daily from July 2027.
  • Bogotá (BOG) and Caracas (CCS) follow in November as detailed above.

Which existing markets are receiving more capacity?

The winter schedule layers additional frequencies on top of the new routes.

In Australia, Qatar Airways will double Melbourne and Sydney service from seven to 14 weekly flights starting December 9. Brisbane returns with three weekly flights; Perth with four.

Frankfurt capacity rises from 18 to 21 weekly flights on December 7, a 7% increase.

Montreal expands from five to seven weekly flights from October 25, a 40% seat-capacity increase.

Jeddah, Riyadh and Sharjah each approach seven daily departures as the carrier rebuilds Gulf hub connectivity after the earlier regional disruption.

Qatar Airways now links Doha to more than 170 destinations worldwide. The 11% winter uplift rests on a mix of restored oneworld handoffs, narrowbody regional growth and one widebody South American bet.

How the triangular Boeing 777-200LR service performs in November — and whether Caracas stays on the map once the initial schedule has run its course — will define the carrier's South American footprint beyond the current winter season.
