Air Serbia will launch direct flights to Miami on May 20, 2027, as it details nine destinations for a 2027 schedule from Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport (BEL) that it calls six new routes.
The announcement covers Miami; John F. Kennedy International, Chicago O’Hare International and Toronto Pearson in North America; Yerevan; Helsinki; Cluj-Napoca; Chișinău; and Menorca. That mismatch leaves one immediate question: how large is the expansion?
How large is the expansion?
Air Serbia says the Miami International Airport (MIA) service will establish its fourth destination in North America. Its announcement also lists routes to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).
The schedule starts earlier elsewhere. Flights to Yerevan, Armenia, are due at the end of March 2027, followed by Helsinki, Finland, in April. Cluj-Napoca, Romania, comes at the end of May, while Chișinău, Moldova, and Menorca are scheduled for June 2027.
Tickets for the new destinations went on sale Oct. 20 for the 2027 summer season. Apart from Miami’s exact date, the announcement gives only month or partial-month windows, and it gives no start dates for JFK, ORD or YYZ.
At network level, MIA would join JFK, ORD and YYZ as the carrier’s fourth North American destination. The other five cities would add Yerevan, Helsinki, Cluj-Napoca, Chișinău and Menorca to Air Serbia’s Belgrade network. None of that additional reach is operating yet.
What is flying now, and what is only promised?
All nine services remain future additions at the time of the announcement. Air Serbia does not specify aircraft types, weekly frequencies or the regulatory status of any service. The published dates therefore mark a plan for operation, not evidence that a route is already cleared and flying.
Air Serbia reported its strongest monthly performance in August 2026, carrying 616,479 passengers, 10% more than in August 2025. In the first eight months of 2026, the airline transported more than three million passengers, its strongest January-August record, and operated 34,641 flights, 5% more than a year earlier.
Air Serbia CEO Jiří Marek said: “This milestone reflects the dedication of our employees, our continued focus on enhancing the passenger experience and the ongoing development of a strong route network that offers customers an ever-growing range of travel opportunities from Belgrade.”
The traffic figures support the airline’s broad demand case, but not a route-by-route forecast. They do not show how many passengers each new service would attract, how much capacity Air Serbia would assign or what load factor the routes would generate.
The disclosed 10% passenger growth in August exceeded the 5% increase in flights for January-August, but the periods differ, so the two rates do not establish utilization or aircraft-level performance.
What will the fleet expansion need to deliver?
Marek added: “Further network growth will be accompanied by fleet expansion, providing additional capacity to support the continued development of the company and improve connectivity for passengers across our network.”
Air Serbia’s wording makes additional aircraft the practical link between the traffic record and the 2027 timetable. Yet the announcement provides no fleet count, model, seat capacity or delivery schedule. It also gives no capital or operating-cost estimate.
For a schedule built around fleet growth, those omissions matter as much as the destination count. A wider network can support connecting traffic and broaden demand, but the release gives no basis for judging how many seats the added aircraft will supply, what they will cost to operate or whether they will arrive early enough for the first departures.
The first test comes with Yerevan at the end of March 2027, when Air Serbia’s record traffic base meets a fleet expansion the airline has yet to quantify.
