Blackhawk.io Passes 10,000 Connected GSE Assets Across 60-Plus Airports
Blackhawk.io's connected fleet platform now monitors over 10,000 GSE assets at 60-plus airports, with one airline deployment reporting up to 10% cuts in fleet size and maintenance costs.
Read-back
- Blackhawk.io's platform monitors more than 10,000 GSE assets across more than 60 airports
- One airline deployment used connected data to reduce some asset classes by up to 10% and cut GSE maintenance costs by up to 10%
- The platform supports more than 70 asset types in the US, Australia and New Zealand, covering both powered and non-powered equipment

Blackhawk.io now monitors more than 10,000 ground support equipment assets across more than 60 airports, marking the scale threshold the company presented at GSE Expo Europe 2026 in Lisbon as proof that connected fleet management has moved beyond pilot deployments.
The platform supports more than 70 asset types at airports in the United States, Australia and New Zealand, covering both powered and non-powered GSE across different manufacturers and equipment types. Powered equipment includes baggage tugs, belt loaders, ground power units and pushback tractors.
The system combines telematics, maintenance information and asset management data into a single view of equipment location, utilization, service requirements and lifecycle performance. That integration is the core of the business case. Instead of relying on calendar-based maintenance schedules or equipment age, ground operations teams use actual runtime and maintenance data to decide when to service, relocate, retain or replace an asset.
The financial claims rest on one large-scale airline deployment that Blackhawk.io cites as evidence. Connected GSE data identified underutilized equipment, allowing the operator to cut some asset classes by up to 10% and redeploy other units to different airport locations. Shifting from calendar-based servicing to maintenance based on actual equipment use reduced GSE maintenance costs by up to 10%, according to the company.
Those figures are manufacturer claims and remain unverified against independent operational records. But the direction of travel is consistent with the economics of ground handling, where fleet capital is tied up in equipment that is often difficult to track across large, multi-terminal sites. For airlines and handlers managing hundreds of assets per hub, a 10% reduction in selected asset classes translates directly into lower capital commitment and floor space requirements.
The platform's vendor-agnostic design matters for adoption. Ground fleets are typically mixed, assembled over years from multiple manufacturers, and a telematics system limited to one OEM's equipment fragments the data picture. Blackhawk.io connects equipment regardless of manufacturer, which allows operators to build a single utilization baseline across the whole fleet rather than per-vendor silos.
Mobile tools extend the platform onto the ramp. Ground crews can locate equipment, conduct inspections and report assets as unserviceable from handheld devices, shortening the interval between a fault being found and the asset being flagged out of service.
The longer-term value, as Blackhawk.io frames it, sits in fleet replacement planning. Bringing equipment data into a common platform gives ground handlers and airlines an operating-data foundation for decisions on which equipment to retire and when, replacing assumptions about equipment age with measured lifecycle performance.
With deployments concentrated in three countries so far, the question ahead is whether the 10,000-asset base expands into Europe and Asia, where the company was showing the platform at the Lisbon expo.
