DHL Express lifts UK rates 5.9% from January 2027
DHL Express will raise UK average rates 5.9% from 1 January 2027, citing inflation, currency moves and compliance costs, after completing its 28-strong Boeing 777 freighter fleet.

- DHL Express raises UK average rates 5.9% effective 1 January 2027
- Deliveries of DHL Express's 28 Boeing 777 freighters are complete
- Company surpassed 500 TAPA-certified facilities worldwide in 2026
DHL Express will raise its average rates in the United Kingdom by 5.9 percent effective 1 January 2027, the company has confirmed. The express operator adjusts prices annually, and it attributes the 2027 increase to inflationary pressures, currency fluctuations and industry-specific cost developments.
The pricing decision lands on a network that DHL Express has just finished re-equipping. Deliveries of the company's 28 Boeing 777 freighters are complete, part of a fleet modernisation programme that has also introduced more fuel-efficient aircraft. Infrastructure expansions and upgrades are under way across all regions of a network spanning more than 220 countries and territories.
"International trade continues to create new opportunities for businesses, while supply chains are becoming increasingly interconnected and complex. We remain committed to helping our customers navigate this evolving environment by investing in our global network, digital capabilities, security infrastructure, and sustainable logistics solutions," said John Cornish, CEO of DHL Express UK. "This annual price adjustment enables us to maintain the high level of service and reliability our customers expect while continuing to strengthen the resilience and adaptability of our global operations."
The cost base behind the increase extends well beyond headline inflation. DHL Express cites energy costs, compliance requirements and administrative expenses tied to evolving customs, regulatory and security measures introduced by national and international authorities. Labour market pressures in many countries add further upward pressure on operating costs. Because the business operates as an internationally integrated network, local UK economic conditions sit alongside developments in global markets in the pricing calculus.
On security, the company passed a milestone in 2026, surpassing 500 TAPA-certified facilities worldwide — a position it says makes it the most TAPA-certified logistics provider globally, built through investment in security technologies, infrastructure and operational processes. TAPA certification is an industry benchmark for high-value cargo handling and theft prevention.
Digital investment is running in parallel. DHL Express is strengthening its IT infrastructure to improve cybersecurity, system resilience, shipment visibility and operational efficiency. Customer-facing tools include AI-enabled capabilities and the continued rollout of the MyExpress platform, which the company says simplifies cross-border shipping.
Sustainability spending continues across fuel-efficient aircraft, Sustainable Aviation Fuel, electric vehicles and carbon-neutral facilities, with the company framing these investments as supporting both its own emissions reduction and customers' sustainability targets.
For UK shippers, the 5.9 percent figure is an average, not a uniform uplift. DHL Express prices annually, and the effective change for individual customers will vary with product, lane and weight breakdown. The increase follows the pattern of annual adjustments the company applies across its markets each January.
The pricing move signals that the cost of the completed 777 fleet renewal, expanding security certification footprint and digital platform build-out will be recovered partly through the tariff, with UK contract holders seeing the new rates at the start of their 2027 billing cycles.
