Japan Airlines has renewed a multi-year maintenance, repair and spare-parts agreement with Embraer covering its fleet of 32 E170 and E190 aircraft, the two companies announced on September 20, 2026.

The contract, run through Embraer's Pool Program, covers a wide range of repairable components for the carrier's E-Jet fleet, which Embraer says is achieving a six-month service reliability average of 99.8%.

Under the arrangement, Embraer will hold a significant inventory of components positioned close to Japan Airlines' operations, a structure designed to give the carrier rapid access to critical parts and minimize operational disruptions. For an operator flying regional jets into high-frequency networks, component availability is a direct driver of dispatch performance and aircraft utilization.

"Through this contract renewal with Embraer, we reinforce our commitment to securing high-quality components and, above all, ensuring the absolute safety of our flight operations," said Yuta Kawaguchi, Executive Officer and Vice President of Material and Component Services at JAL Engineering Co. Ltd.

"Through our Pool Program, we are committed to providing the reliability, responsiveness and operational support needed to maximize the E-Jets' performance," said Carlos Naufel, President and CEO of Embraer Services and Support.

The renewal extends a long-standing relationship between the Brazilian airframer and the Japanese carrier. Embraer traces its presence in the Asia-Pacific region to 1978, when its first aircraft entered operation there. More than fifteen airlines across seven countries in the region currently operate the E-Jets family.

Neither party disclosed the financial terms or the duration of the renewed agreement. Embraer's claim of 99.8% service reliability reflects the manufacturer's own measurement of the six-month average; the figure underscores why JAL has kept the fleet under OEM component support rather than shifting to independent MRO providers or in-house capability at JAL Engineering.

The renewal also signals continued operator confidence in the E170 and E190, the smaller variants of the first-generation E-Jets, at a time when many carriers are weighing fleet decisions between aging regional jets and newer-generation aircraft. For Embraer, pool-program contracts of this kind provide recurring services revenue that cushions the cyclical swings of aircraft deliveries.

With component inventories positioned near JAL's operational bases and repairable coverage across the 32-aircraft fleet, the agreement is structured to sustain the reliability levels both companies cite as the foundation of the partnership through the coming contract term.
