Qatar Airways to serve Western Sydney from December 2027
Qatar Airways will fly Doha–Western Sydney three times weekly from December 15, 2027, going daily by end-2028 as its winter network passes 170 destinations.
Read-back
- First Doha–Western Sydney flight scheduled December 15, 2027, with 777-300ERs three times weekly, daily by end-2028
- Winter 2026-2027 network exceeds 170 destinations with nearly 1,800 weekly flights in December 2026
- Melbourne doubles to 14 weekly and Canberra service resumes December 9, 2026
- London Heathrow rises to 56 weekly flights and Montreal to daily from October 25, 2026
- Four Saudi routes resume, taking the Saudi network to 12 destinations and 155-plus weekly flights

Qatar Airways will launch three weekly Boeing 777-300ER flights between Doha's Hamad International Airport (DOH) and Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) on December 15, 2027, escalating to daily service by the end of 2028.
The airport announced the deal on October 21, 2026, making Qatar Airways the latest international carrier to sign on at Sydney's new 24-hour airport. Tickets go on sale December 19, 2026.
Services will operate every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Inbound flights arrive at WSI at 23:45 local time; the return departs WSI at 16:10 the following day, reaching Doha at 23:00. The 777-300ERs carry up to 354 seats: 42 in Qsuite Business Class and 312 in Economy.
Qatar Airways Group CEO Hamad Al Khater called the route "the next chapter in our long-standing partnership with Australia, one of our most important markets". He said WSI's around-the-clock operation would bring more international visitors to New South Wales and give exporters a direct cargo link to the Gulf and beyond.
Federal Transport Minister Catherine King said the Doha connection would let Western Sydney travellers "board a second leg to any corner of the globe". The route received support from the Western Sydney International Take-Off Fund, jointly backed by the New South Wales government and WSI.
What does this change for Australia capacity?
The WSI announcement sits inside a broader Australian expansion unveiled in September, when Qatar Airways detailed plans to fly to more than 170 destinations during the 2026–2027 winter season, with nearly 1,800 weekly flights planned for December 2026.
Qatar Airways resumes daily Canberra (CBR) flights via Melbourne (MEL) on December 9, 2026, reconnecting Australia's capital. On the same date, Melbourne frequencies double from seven to 14 per week.
Partner Virgin Australia adds its own Doha capacity from December 2026: Sydney rises from seven to 14 weekly flights, Brisbane restarts with three and Perth with four. Combined with Qatar Airways' own metal, weekly Doha service reaches 21 from Sydney, 10 from Brisbane and 11 from Perth.
Where else does the network grow?
Asia-Pacific and Asian leisure markets take a substantial share of the added frequencies from October 25, 2026:
- Phuket (HKT): 14 to 21 weekly flights
- Male, Maldives (MLE): 12 to 21 weekly flights
- Ho Chi Minh City (SGN): from November 7, 2026, seven to 11 weekly, including four new nonstop Doha rotations, with the existing Doha–Ho Chi Minh City–Phnom Penh service continuing
- Kuala Lumpur (KUL): 18 weekly Qatar Airways flights, alongside 14 by oneworld partner Malaysia Airlines
In Africa, daily Zanzibar (ZNZ) flights resume October 25, 2026. Johannesburg (JNB) rises from 14 to 18 weekly from December 2, 2026, and Seychelles (SEZ) moves from four to seven weekly on March 1, 2027.
North America and Europe also gain capacity. Montreal (YUL) increases from five to seven weekly flights on October 25, 2026, a 40% seat-capacity increase. London Heathrow (LHR) goes from 49 to 56 weekly flights, adding 11% capacity, and Frankfurt (FRA) rises from 18 to 21 weekly on December 7, 2026.
Four Saudi routes return
Qatar Airways will restore service to four Saudi cities at two weekly flights each:
- Qassim (ELQ) from October 25, 2026
- Taif (TIF) from October 31, 2026
- Yanbu (YNB) from January 2, 2027
- Tabuk (TUU) from January 3, 2027
That brings the Saudi network to 12 destinations and more than 155 weekly flights.
Separately, the airline continues to roll out Starlink Wi-Fi: more than 150 widebody aircraft are equipped, enabling up to 340 connected flights per day.
The WSI commitment extends Qatar Airways' Australian build-out past the 2026 winter peak, with the Doha–Western Sydney corridor positioned to reach daily frequencies as the new airport matures.
