XYZ Dynamics Debuts Purpose-Built Electric Pushback Tractor in Lisbon

XYZ Dynamics unveiled the SFINX NB15, a ground-up electric pushback tractor with a 64.5 kWh LFP battery, at GSE Expo Europe 2026 in Lisbon — but no orders or delivery dates.

Read-back

  1. XYZ Dynamics unveiled the SFINX NB15 fully electric pushback tractor at GSE Expo Europe 2026 in Lisbon, its international debut.
  2. The tractor uses a 64.5 kWh LiFePO4 battery, supports CCS DC fast charging and Type 2 AC charging, and has a modular powerpack replaceable by one technician in about half a day.
  3. No confirmed orders, airport deployments or delivery dates were announced.

XYZ Dynamics used GSE Expo Europe 2026 in Lisbon to unveil the SFINX NB15, a fully electric pushback tractor engineered from the ground up for battery operation rather than converted from existing diesel equipment. The three-day exhibition marked the first time the Dutch company showed the complete machine publicly, after what it described as deliberately limited previews of the platform.

The distinction between purpose-built and converted equipment sits at the center of the product's claim to airport operators. Converted diesel tractors carry over chassis layouts, weight distribution and packaging constraints designed around combustion drivetrains. XYZ Dynamics instead designed the NB15 around its electric architecture, targeting operator comfort, maneuverability, serviceability and equipment uptime — the operational parameters that determine a tractor's value in daily pushback rotations.

Drivetrain and charging specifications

The tractor draws power from a 64.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery pack and supports both CCS DC fast charging and Type 2 AC charging. LiFePO4 chemistry trades energy density for cycle life and thermal stability, a reasonable choice for high-utilization ramp equipment. Dual-battery and extended-range configurations are planned but remain in development, and the company has not published runtime figures for the base configuration.

The drivetrain uses a single-speed transmission paired with dynamic four-wheel steering that adapts at higher speeds to improve stability — a meaningful feature for towing operations across aprons and service roads.

Cabin and visibility

For operators, the cabin reflects most of the ergonomic investment. An independently suspended cabin reduces vibration and impact transfer, complemented by progressive parabolic suspension and a sound-dampened interior. A lowered front windscreen and an integrated front camera improve sightlines during aircraft pushback and other close-quarters ramp maneuvers, where visibility directly affects turnaround safety and speed.

Maintenance design targets downtime

Serviceability received specific attention in the design. A modular powerpack can be removed and replaced by a single technician in approximately half a day, according to the company, and the electric drivetrain contains fewer moving components than a diesel equivalent. For ground handlers, that reduction translates into fewer wear items, less scheduled maintenance and potentially higher fleet availability — though XYZ Dynamics has not yet released dispatch-reliability data, since the tractor has not entered service.

"GSE Expo Europe was the moment we had been working towards for a long time," said Luuk, project manager at XYZ Dynamics. "Until Lisbon, we had deliberately only shown glimpses of SFINX. Being able to finally reveal the complete machine and see people step into the cabin, ask detailed questions and share their first reactions was incredibly rewarding for the entire team."

Visitors at the Lisbon expo could inspect the tractor, enter its cabin and question the development team directly on design decisions.

Broader business and market position

New-build equipment represents only part of XYZ Dynamics' strategy. The company also converts existing diesel-powered ground support equipment to electric drivetrains, offering operators an alternative to full fleet replacement — a relevant option for airports and handlers balancing electrification targets against capital budgets.

Following the Lisbon debut, the company plans continued discussions with ground handlers, airports and other GSE operators about deploying the NB15 in daily operations.

What the launch did not include matters as much as what it did. XYZ Dynamics announced no confirmed orders, no airport deployments and no delivery dates. The SFINX NB15 remains a prototype-stage product seeking its first commercial commitments, and its specifications — from battery runtime to service intervals — await validation in operational service. Until a ground handler signs on and the tractor logs real pushback cycles, the NB15's uptime claims rest on engineering intent rather than fleet data.
