EHang to conduct first eVTOL trials and UTM deployment in Vietnam
EHang will run Vietnam's first eVTOL aircraft trials alongside a UTM deployment, pairing certification-track aircraft with the traffic-management layer needed for autonomous flight.
Read-back
- EHang will conduct Vietnam's first eVTOL trials and deploy a UTM system in the country.
- The report does not specify aircraft variant, trial dates, locations or Vietnamese partners.
- EHang's EH216-S holds type, production and operator certificates from China's CAAC.
EHang will carry out Vietnam's first electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft trials and deploy an unmanned traffic management (UTM) system in the country, according to Unmanned Airspace.
The move makes Vietnam one of the first Southeast Asian markets where the Chinese manufacturer will pair flight testing of its passenger-carrying autonomous aircraft with the rollout of the ground infrastructure needed to supervise low-altitude operations. EHang has pursued the same dual-track approach elsewhere: the company treats airworthiness certification of the aircraft and regulatory acceptance of a traffic-management layer as interdependent steps, since autonomous passenger flights require an approved means of monitoring airspace rather than on-board pilots.
Details of the agreement — including which EHang aircraft variant will fly in Vietnam, the number of units involved, trial locations, launch dates and the identity of Vietnamese regulatory and commercial partners — were not disclosed in the report. EHang's flagship product, the two-seat EH216-S, has secured a type certificate, production certificate and air operator certificate from the Civil Aviation Administration of China, milestones that form the regulatory basis for its international expansion. Vietnam does not yet have an eVTOL certification framework of its own, so the trials are likely to inform how its aviation authorities structure oversight of the sector.
The UTM component matters as much as the aircraft themselves. Without a system to manage vehicle-to-vehicle separation, flight authorization and real-time monitoring at low altitudes, commercial eVTOL operations cannot scale beyond isolated demonstration flights. By installing both elements together, EHang positions itself to shape not only Vietnam's aircraft standards but the operating architecture of its future urban air mobility network.
For Vietnam, the trials offer early access to a technology segment where regulators across Asia are still writing the rules, and a chance to build local operational expertise before competing manufacturers arrive. For EHang, Vietnam adds another market to an expansion strategy that has already produced trial operations and partnership announcements across Asia, the Middle East and Latin America.
The next milestones to watch are a confirmed trial schedule, the designation of the Vietnamese authority that will supervise the flights, and evidence of whether the UTM system moves beyond installation to routine operational use.
