Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has launched a new brand platform, 'Scandinavian as Standard', timing the rollout to its 80th anniversary. The campaign went live on September 28, 2026, and will carry across the carrier's communications in domestic and international markets.

SAS developed the platform together with Ogilvy. The media plan includes television, online video, digital display, outdoor and social advertising — a broad spend footprint for a carrier that has spent recent years restructuring rather than marketing.

The airline frames the platform around what it calls the belief that "the world needs more Scandinavia." According to SAS, the platform "celebrates the values, perspectives and way of thinking that have helped make the region increasingly admired." Accompanying imagery highlights values the airline names as "curiosity, trust, and collaboration."

"We often say at SAS that the world needs more Scandinavia," Paul Verhagen, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at SAS, said. "Not because we have all the answers, but because there are values and ideas from this part of the world that are worth sharing. Scandinavian as Standard builds on that belief. It reflects the idea that many of the qualities associated with Scandinavia have long been part of everyday life here."

Johanna Gustafsson, Head of Brand at SAS, positioned the creative concept around a contrast between outside perception and local habit. "The campaign is built around a simple observation: many of the things people admire about Scandinavia are things Scandinavians rarely think twice about," she said. "What others may see as exceptional is often considered standard here. Scandinavian as Standard brings that idea to life through stories and situations that reflect the values and mindset that have shaped both this region and SAS for generations."

The tagline itself does the argumentative work: it converts a regional self-image into a service promise. Whether that promise translates into a measurable commercial proposition — premium positioning, differentiation against larger European network rivals — will depend on execution beyond the campaign window.

An 80th anniversary gives the carrier a natural anchor for the message. SAS has spent eight decades building its identity around the region it serves, and the platform leans explicitly on that inheritance. The question for the brand team is whether "Scandinavian as Standard" reads to international audiences as a defined product claim or as regional sentiment.

The campaign runs across TV, online video, digital display, outdoor and social channels from its September 28, 2026 launch. SAS says the platform will inform future communications both at home and abroad, indicating a sustained repositioning rather than a one-off anniversary push.
